Owls!

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

I did a comic about an owl superfan the other week.  Remember that one?

Well, check this out!  Sheli went on ahead and drew up an awesome thing!  I actually have this printed out and it hangs next to my desk =)

Sheli has an awesome site where she posts some really cool drawings and paintings.  She’s even done a couple just for us!  She drew up my suggestion of a sloth piloting a fighter jet alongside a slow loris also piloting a fighter jet and Drew’s suggestion of the Hulk riding a vespa.  She also drew this comic talking about a very popular dinosaur friend of ours.  Check them all out!

It Gets Better

I encountered this new Dan Savage project on Pharyngula yesterday, and I thought it was wonderful.  Then I noticed that Ryan mentioned it below his webcomic today, and realized I should do the same!  It’s more serious than we normally get on this macroblog, but it’s worth it because I think more people should know about this really positively-minded youtube channel.

Dan Savage started the It Gets Better Project in response to the suicide of Billy Lucas, an Indiana high-schooler who was bullied because he was gay.  The project encourages people to post videos with a simple message (one that could have helped Billy): it gets better.  Endure all the bullying in middle and high school, and your life will improve after you’re out of there.  That is such a great message!  There is no one who can’t relate to feeling bullied, so I hope everyone sees the value in reassuring those in the midst of their darkest times that there are better times ahead.  Thanks, Dan Savage!

Also, don’t bully.

News Bits

I did a guest comic for Rosscott over at The System!  Rosscott has been having some hashtag fun on Twitter with his tag, #futureworldproblems, and is running guest comics based on the hashtag.  Check it out!

Here’s a fun fact.  LHT and The System both had tables at Connecticon in 2009.  Rosscott was a mere 4 tables or so from us.  I intended on saying hi, but I still had that weird issue where I couldn’t just walk right up to a stranger and start talking.  I’m all better now (or at least that’s what I keep telling myself).

Here are some more cool news tidbits:
