It Gets Better

I encountered this new Dan Savage project on Pharyngula yesterday, and I thought it was wonderful.  Then I noticed that Ryan mentioned it below his webcomic today, and realized I should do the same!  It’s more serious than we normally get on this macroblog, but it’s worth it because I think more people should know about this really positively-minded youtube channel.

Dan Savage started the It Gets Better Project in response to the suicide of Billy Lucas, an Indiana high-schooler who was bullied because he was gay.  The project encourages people to post videos with a simple message (one that could have helped Billy): it gets better.  Endure all the bullying in middle and high school, and your life will improve after you’re out of there.  That is such a great message!  There is no one who can’t relate to feeling bullied, so I hope everyone sees the value in reassuring those in the midst of their darkest times that there are better times ahead.  Thanks, Dan Savage!

Also, don’t bully.

Also, the very cute logo was made by Joe Newton

Damn bullies make it REALLY HARD to just non-violently disapprove of gay :C
I think instead of helping people cope, we should just start attacking bullies on sight, and holding them responsible when they drive people to suicide.

  4. Forgot to comment when I saw this before because I got lost in internet.

That little logo is ADORABLE. It may not help me specifically, as I escaped high school and things are finally better for me, but thanks for posting about this. Your awesome is showing.
